Longley Concrete complete enabling works
Longley Concrete, the precast concrete flooring manufacturer, has completed a year long programme of major site works at their Dewsbury-based head office. The company has been on the same site since its inception in 1947, when Charles Longley set up the business as a local block manufacturer. This latest redevelopment will allow Longley Concrete to increase capacity as the company looks to enhance its product range and continue its growth.
The project has seen the redevelopment of 7,000m² of land and has meant the removal of circa 25,000m³ of earth and waste materials. Some key statistics from the works, which has been completed in 2 phases over 12 months, are:
• Over 750 No. ‘lego blocks’, produced by Longley Concrete, used to build retaining walls of over 350m in length
• Over 1350m³ of new concrete used to create storage and distribution areas
• Construction of a new access road system with 200m of collision protection barrier installed
The work has also included the installation of a new subterranean drainage system over 750m in length, to feed Longley’s on-site water storage and recycling system. The collected rain water is stored and used in the manufacturing process, which in turn reduces the environmental impact of its production.
Managing Director Michael Longley commented on the project “The business has been on the same site for over 70 years and we have expanded our manufacturing capabilities in that time. This yard redevelopment gives us the opportunity to better utilise the site we have and consider and evaluate new production techniques. We have had an excellent start to the new financial year and look forward to further redevelopment work in 2019 and beyond.”
