The advantages of precast concrete
With over 70 years’ experience supplying precast concrete flooring products to UK-based clients, Longley has developed an in-depth knowledge of concrete and its many benefits.
For that reason, today the team is summarising just three of precast concrete’s key advantages:
Concrete is highly durable, it gains strength over time and isn’t weakened by pests, mould or moisture. Longley Concrete’s beam and block flooring is perfect for the ground floors of residential developments and commercial buildings. Their beams are manufactured in an enclosed factory environment from self-compacting concrete in moulds, meaning that they boast a superior dimensional tolerance.
Longley has capacity within their factories to produce enough precast concrete beams to construct more than 100 floors every day.
2) Low maintenance
Precast concrete is compact and non-porous. It doesn’t attract mould and won’t lose its key properties as time goes on, making it a low maintenance option for the construction industry.
The inherent mass and damping qualities of concrete make good sound insulation and acoustic performance easily achievable, which results in the need for additional finishes to be minimal (thereby lowering ongoing maintenance costs).
3) Fire resistant
Concrete is naturally fire resistant, making it an ideal and safe base for property construction. Due to its constituent materials (cement and aggregates), concrete has poor thermal conductivity and is essentially inert, it has the highest fire-resistance classification (class AI) under EN 13501-1:2007- A1:2009.
As well as beam and block floors, Longley Concrete also provides hollowcore and insulated floors, staircases and lift shafts – all made from precast concrete.
