Longley Employee Alan Smith Passes Away
Longley Concrete is saddened to announce the news that one of our employees Alan Smith has lost his battle with cancer, passing away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday 25th July 2017.
Alan had been an employee with Longley since November 2011 and was well liked by all within the company. He joined us from a local branch of Naylor Myers and worked within our beam and block estimating department, where his knowledge and understanding of the industry proved vital in opening up new opportunities.
For the last few years, Alan had worked within the team of estimators who dealt purely with Builders Merchant enquiries, so his links with the local merchants certainly gained him an advantage. His family have informed us of how much Alan enjoyed coming to work every day.
In his spare time Alan enjoyed coarse fishing and got involved with organising matches for Woodhouse Recreation Angling Club; that being said he often mentioned that he very rarely won any matches as he’d often fall asleep on the bank. Colleagues would regularly ask him if he caught anything at the weekend and in true fisherman style he’d exaggerate the size of his catch.
Alan was also a very passionate supporter of Leeds Rhinos, attending both home and away games on a regular basis with his wife and daughters. Being outdoors was something that Alan enjoyed, whether he was working on his allotment growing oversized marrows or building dry stone walls with The Otley and Yorkshire Dales branch of the Dry Stone Walling Association.
Alan will be missed by everyone here at Longley and our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.
